Yukiko’s class aims to improve how to stop, attack, flow and gain strength to be in and out of the floor efficiently. Her technique is influenced by Hip-hop foundation of isolation and rhythm training, Release and Limon technique.
Yukiko Masui is a Tokyo-born, London-based dancer, choreographer and rehearsal director. Her background is in Hiphop and Latin as well as Contemporary Dance (MA from Trinity Laban).
As a dancer she is interested in collaborative work across different genres of dance and has worked with choreographers such as Jose Agudo, James Cousins, Rhiannon Faith, Tamsin Fitzgerald, Rosie Kay, Vincent Mantsoe, Christopher Marney, Cathy Waller, and companies such as Ace Dance and Music, Company Decalage, RDC, State of Emergency (UK) and Vuyani Dance Theatre (South Africa).
As a choreographer, her debut solo “Unbox” was premiered at Resolutions! 2015 at The Place, London and received glowing reviews – “a performance that makes you sit up and pay unwavering attention (…) a riveting solo that deserves wider exposure” (Sanjoy Roy, The Guardian). The following year she returned to The Place with the quartet “It Takes Two Too”, which was funded by Arts Council England and toured nationally throughout 2016.
As a rehearsal director, she supported Impact Dance’s LIVE VIBE Hiphop Theatre project in Caracas, Venezuela in 2017 and Jose Agudo’s A Thousand Shepherds with Cape Dance Company in Cape Town, South Africa in 2016.
