A two day masterclass with Sarah Dowling exploring ways of using site as a stimulus for choreography. Drawing on her15 years experience as a performer with Punchdrunk, Sarah will give participants a window into her creative process when devising for unconventional performance spaces. The workshop will culminate with participants devising their own site responsive choreographic sketches in and around Vivid Projects.

This masterclass is for dance and movement makers who are interested in working with unconventional performance spaces, sited or outdoor work.

Vivid Projects is a collaborative gallery space in Minerva works; a complex of former factories and warehouses in Birmingham’s creative Eastside district.

Sarah is a performer, choreographer and movement director.

As a choreographer she has been a place prize finalist, associate artist at the Royal Opera House and her latest work was based on Beckett’s Waiting for Godot called Us then which was a Trinity Laban and GDA Compass Commission.

 As a performer she has worked with Punchdrunk for 15 years. Creating the roles of Lady Macbeth, Lady Capulet and Dolores Gray in The Drowned Man.

 As a movement director she has worked most recently on the film Mary Queen of Scots starring Saorise Ronan and Margot Robbie. But mostly Sarah works on plays and operas including RSC Julius Caesar, Waiting for Godot starring Ian mcKellen and Patrick Stewart and The Fairy Queen opera director Thomas Guthrie.
