Thursday morning Pro Class with HumanHood!
The class will be based on Rudi and Julia’s movement practice and exploration, called HumanhoodPractice. Inspired by the past decade of their experience, both in the Western training and the Eastern physical and spiritual approaches, including Tai-chi, Qi-gong, Moving Breath and Yoga, their sessions bring special awareness to the articulation of the spine while focusing on the state of mind and the groundless of the body.
The movements are circular, fluid and rhythmic, working with intention and totality and using the coordination between visualisation and breath. HumanhoodPractice is the core foundation of Humanhood’s movement language from which Rudi and Julia’s choreographic practice arises. Rudi will bring special attention to rhythm and Julia will challenge your floorwork. At the end of each class sections of company repertoire will be shared and explored.
Humanhood Company was founded in 2016 by Rudi Cole and Júlia Robert Parés, collectively known as Humanhood, and since the creation of their first duet the company is having a rapidly growing following both in the UK and International scene. Together, they have developed a unique symbiotic fluid movement language that lies at the core of their work, creating intricate choreographic patterns that merge into multilayered energetic shapes with flow and dynamism. The research behind the work is rooted in physics and astrophysics as well as in their personal insight into Eastern mysticism, fascinated by the connections that lie between these seemingly different fields and how these shape our human experience of ourselves and reality. Drawn by their interest in the cosmos and nature, Rudi and Julia collaborate with physicist William Chaplin, leader of the NASA Kepler Mission on asteroseismology (the study of stars) and professor at Birmingham University; challenging the dialogue and collaborative process between choreography and scientific research. Julia and Rudi are Associate Artists at DanceXchange in Birmingham
Based in Birmingham and Barcelona, the company has presented compelling works to audiences from around the world including bringing its unique mixture of exceptional physicality, academic viewpoint and spiritual discovery. Humanhood’s next full length group piece entitled ‘Torus’, commissioned by Birmingham Dance Hub, DanceXchange and Sadler’s Wells, will premiere in Spring 2019.
