This class will introduce us to working methods of contact improvisation, exploring our sense of weight, volume and container. It will support and create a safe and playful environment as a springboard for an Open Contact Jam that will follow.

Within this session, we will explore ways to find spontaneity, flow and presence in our dancing within the studio setting and take a closer look into how we organise ourselves in and out of the gravitational field. We will take the time to listen and work with principles of sharing the dance through tasks to help deepen our practice as we work independently, together with a partner and partners as well as in a group.

The focus will be to create an investigative process of tuning in, expanding attention and navigating our physical world to encounter a friendly relationship with gravity and one another. This is a learning environment that allows each of us to encounter different aspects of time, space, weight, and weightlessness.

We want to invite you into this context to prepare us for the afternoon’s open Jam session. The Jam will be led and facilitated by Andrea Buckley and Daniel Lukehurst.
