Tuesday Morning ProClass with Johnny Autin

The focus is a physical and sensorial exploration of movements with the use of breath, weight and our relationship with the floor. Johnny integrates the techniques and range of training he has received through the companies he has worked with, and brings the dancers to take the space and explore different levels through a set of travelling exercises. The dancers will learn phrases that use change of dynamics and qualities, with movements going in and out of the floor. Technical, original and fun, Johnny’s classes challenge the dancers’ core strength and stamina.

Johnny is an international dance artist and choreographer from France who is now based in Birmingham. He trained at the French National Conservatoire of Music and Dance and went on to choreograph and direct work that experiments with a range of different styles, from Contemporary Dance, Flamenco, Break Dance and Opera to Physical Theatre. He has worked internationally, collaborating with choreographers and companies throughout Europe, as well as touring work worldwide. Johnny has worked with a number of organisations, including 2Faced Dance Company, Gravity & Levity and Panta Rei Danseteater, Norway, as both a performer and a physical theatre practitioner. He has performed works by Darshan Singh Bhuller, Balbir Singh, Tom Dale, Freddie Opoku-Addaie, Gregory Maqoma and Hélène Blackburn. Johnny works regularly as associate choreographer for Birmingham Opera Company and is the Creative Director of Autin Dance Theatre (est. 2013), who are currently touring ‘A Posi+ive Life’, their immersive dance theatre experience around sex, love and relationships for young people, their outdoor show ‘Dystopia’, and their new stand-up dance theatre ‘Queer Words’, fresh from Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2018.
