Thursday morning Pro Class with Sarah Butler!

Sarah’s class will be somatic based, focusing on Authentic Movement Practice. The session incorporates scoring, music and text. Participants will be guided through a series of structured improvisational exercises to warm up and focus the body, explore movement and space, create phrases, and connect individually and as part of an ensemble group. The class aims to encourage free and fresh ways of moving and discovering new movement material in a safe and supportive environment.

Sarah is a freelance dance and theatre artist based in South Derbyshire. She has extensive experience working as a multi-skilled performer across dance, theatre and puppetry, and particularly enjoys working outdoors and in unusual spaces and places.

After recently finishing maternity leave with her second child, Sarah is currently working as Rehearsal Director for the wonderful Spiltmilk Dance and as Associate Lecturer in Physical Theatre and Technique at Derby University/Déda.

As a performer, she has toured nationally and internationally with companies including Glasshouse Dance, Spiltmilk Dance, Beautiful Creatures, Birmingham Opera Company, Tell Tale Hearts, Coreo Cymru and Katie Green. Sarah loves opportunities to make work collaboratively and most recently has co-choreographed Pecking Order with Andrew Williams at the Level Centre for the All Dance Festival, as well as co-choreographing and performing alongside Kim Bormann and Kieran Graham Shannon in Layer Three at Nottingham Contemporary.
