It’s back! West Midlands dancers, makers and choreographers are invited to submit proposals for short pieces of work to be presented at this regional platform for new work / work in development.

Introducing… will be presented as part of Birmingham International DAnce Festival 2018 and VIVID Projects LIVE program.

Performance date: Saturday 9th June 2018

June’s Introducing… will be the fifth platform for new work curated by Birmingham Dance Network. Introducing… is the only dance platform in the West Midlands specifically designed for regional artists to test out new work on audiences who then offer direct feedback on the night. We will accept applications from outside the region, but priority is given to regional artists.

This year’s Introducing… is a little different. This year we are getting together with VIVID Projects to present work that is made for unconventional,  gallery, or outdoors spaces. We welcome applications for durational work and digital instillations as well as short live performance pieces. Outdoor work would be performed in front of the Minerva works building, which houses VIVID Projects and which extends onto a canal. Artists who wish to submit sited, site specific or outdoor work are encouraged to research the space before applying.

Excitingly this year’s Introducing… will be presented as part of BIDF18 exposing artist’s work to a wide regional and international audience. The hallmark format of Introducing… will continue; audiences will still be invited to give direct written feedback during the event that will be passed on to the artists, and the event will be hosted in BDN’s signature theatrical style.

BDN is interested in submissions from all corners of the dance world (South East Asian/ hip-hop/ improv/ classical/ theatrical/ experimental/ street/ ballroom etc), as long as you’re interested in exploring a new idea that needs an audience (and are being creative with your form) then we want to hear from you.

Artists will receive a performance fee, video footage of your work and direct written feedback from the audience. It will also give you the opportunity to make links within the industry and get your work seen by potential future partners.

Deadline for submission of the application form is 9AM Friday 23rd March 2018
