It’s back! West Midlands dancers, makers and choreographers are invited to submit proposals for short pieces of work to be presented at this regional platform for new work and work in development.

July’s Introducing… will be the sixth platform for new work curated by Birmingham Dance Network. Introducing… is the only dance platform in the West Midlands specifically designed for regional artists to test out new work on audiences who then offer direct feedback on the night. We will accept applications from outside the region, but priority is given to regional artists.

This year we invite applications that respond to the theme of COMMUNITY. You can apply for two different projects:

Project 1: Community ChoreoMatch Commission

We are interested in receiving applications suitable for a relaxed studio theatre setting as well as unconventional, gallery or outdoor spaces. We welcome applications for durational work and digital installations, as well as short live performance pieces (5–15 mins). Artists who wish to submit sited, site-specific or outdoor work are encouraged to research the venue before applying. The BDN team are consulting with Sense and TouchBase Pears to make the performance accessible to people with a range of different needs.

About the venue:
TouchBase Pears is ‘a pioneering, multi-purpose centre for the whole community in Birmingham and beyond – a place that brings people together in a welcoming environment where everyone can feel connected, included and part of the community’. The venue has a studio theatre space, as well as a number of other accessible sites that could be used for performances. BDN are in conversations with TouchBase Pears about how best to make this event fully accessible and inclusive.

Who Can Apply?
BDN is interested in submissions from all corners of the dance world (contemporary, South Asian/ hip-hop/ improv/ classical/ theatrical/ experimental/ street/ ballroom etc), and from artists at all stages of their careers. As long as you’re interested in exploring a new idea that needs an audience, and are being creative with your form, then we want to hear from you. On this occasion, we are particularly interested in, and will prioritise, applications from artists living and/or already working in the region.

For all questions and enquiries, please email Jessica  – projects@birminghamdancenetwork.co.uk

Deadline for submission of the application form is 9:00am on the 12th April 2019.
