After our successful pilot in 2016, we are pleased to announce the launch of our 2019 mentoring scheme.
What is the scheme?
As part of BDN’s ongoing programme of artistic development for dancers in the region, we are launching a mentoring scheme for recent graduates based in the West Midlands. If selected, you will be matched with one of BDN’s directors and receive three free mentoring sessions over a six-month period, with funds available for local travel. You will arrange the sessions with your mentor at times and venues convenient for you both.
The sessions will focus on your development as a dance professional and their content will be confidential, unless otherwise agreed. As this is a tiered mentoring programme, your mentor will herself have experience of being a mentee, which will enrich the relationship the two of you establish.
What will you gain?
As an emerging artist, you will be able to access insight, inspiration, sector knowledge, signposting and guidance from someone already established in their career. You will be supported in exploring opportunities and pathways and in developing your confidence, networking skills and ambitions. You and your mentor will decide how the relationship will work, and what its aims will be.
What will BDN expect from you?
You will be expected to complete all three sessions and be proactive and enthusiastic in your interactions with your mentor – it will be you driving the relationship. We will also ask you to inform BDN of any issues with the process as they arise, and to take part in an end-of-programme evaluation.
